Orgin of Bluetooth

The name ¡°Bluetooth¡± derives from Harald Bluetooth, a Viking who united Denmark and Norway in the 10 th Century. Just as Harald Bluetooth unified Norway and Denmark , the Bluetooth technology will unite the world of computer and telecommunication devices by a unified wireless communications system.

Development of Bluetooth was first started in 1994 by Ericsson Mobile Communication under the concept ¡®Multi-Communicator Link' and the idea was to come up with a low-power radio interface to link electronic devices wirelessly. In 1998, the Bluetooth SIG(Special Interest Group) was formed with Ericsson, Intel, IBM, Nokia and Toshiba being the founding group and in December of 1999, companies like Microsoft, 3 Com, Motorola and Lucent joined the SIG to become the Promoter Group. The number of SIG members increased very rapidly and currently numbers more than 2000 companies.
